When Bill Carstarphen joined the Board of the Community Foundation, he followed in the footsteps of his father, J. M. “Bip” Carstarphen, mother, Catherine Ann Pharr Carstarphen and his grandmother, Mrs. William James Pharr. Mrs. Pharr participated as a benefactor of the Foundation in the early 1990s. “Bip” Carstarphen served on the Board of the Foundation and he was also named the 2009 Allen H. Sims recipient, along with his wife, Catherine Ann. Bill has continued the family’s involvement through the Community Foundation participating as a fund holder and Secretary/Treasurer of the Board.

Bill and wife, Carol have shared their experience of generous giving with their children. Bill and Carol’s son, William Carstarphen created a fund at the Foundation during high school to assist students with college tuition. Since William’s return from college, he and wife, Brittany participate with the Next Generation giving circle of the Foundation.
