The Bancroft Poston Scholarship
$2,500 one-time Scholarship
Ashbrook, Bessemer City, Highland and Hunter Huss High School students

This scholarship is funded primarily from Patricia Bancroft Poston and David E. Poston, both long-time Gaston County educators. It is a one-time $2,500 scholarship, awarded to one graduating senior from one of these four high schools: Ashbrook High School, Bessemer City School, Highland School of Technology, and Hunter Huss High School. Recipients must have been accepted at and attend a North Carolina non-profit college, university, or community college. Candidates must be in the top 25% of their graduating class and will be selected based on financial need, academic record, and character as shown through community service and work ethic.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Candidates must be in the top 25% of the graduating class
- Evidence of financial need
- Must attend an accredited 2 or 4-year college
- Evidence of participation in school or community extracurricular activities
- Evidence of initiative, motivation, strong character, and leadership
SELECTION COMMITTEE
Selection of recipients will be made by a committee named by the Board of Directors of the Gaston Community Foundation, which shall have full and final authority for determining eligibility of applicants and selection of recipients from those applicants.
FUNDS ALLOCATION
Scholarship proceeds will be payable directly to the accredited school upon confirmation of the student's beginning of classes. However, the maximum amount of a scholarship is limited to actual cost of tuition and student fees. The scholarship amount is subject to change based on availability of funds.
