This scholarship is funded by gifts from Beam Construction Company of Cherryville to honor the late Mr. Browne. This program helps high school students receive a college education and/or advanced vocational training for careers in the construction industry. Qualifications include character, academic achievement and need.
Scholarship criteria are based on character, academic achievement, and need:
a. Eligibility to apply: Graduate of a High School from one of the following counties; Cleveland, Lincoln, Burke, Catawba, Rutherford and Mecklenburg, who demonstrates a strong interest in the professional field of construction or related trades and professions. Planned course of study may include either four-year school in architecture and engineering or community college/technical school courses in such areas as civil technology, HVAC, and welding.
b. Selection of recipient will be made by a Selection Committee recommended by The Donor and approved by the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Gaston County. This committee will be composed of persons who are knowledgeable and interested in advancement of the construction industries, but most of its members are not affiliated with the Donors’ organization.
c. Renewal is not automatic, but the previous year’s winner is eligible to reapply. The scholarship amount and renewal policy is subject to change based on availability of funds.
